The Research
A note on this research
Most of the studies on Network Spinal are published in Chiropractic and complementary medicine journals and are observational or case-based in design, meaning they describe what happened to people receiving care rather than comparing them against a control group. This is worth understanding before you read on.
Randomised controlled trials are considered the gold standard in clinical research, and the Network Spinal evidence base doesn’t yet include many of these. What it does include is a substantial body of consistent findings across a wide range of patients and contexts. This includes a landmark wellness study involving nearly 3,000 participants, objective nervous system measurements, and multiple peer-reviewed case studies across different presenting conditions.
We share this research because it represents a genuine and growing evidence base, and because informed patients make better decisions. We also share it with the caveat that research in this area continues to evolve, and that your own experience is the most relevant data point of all.
The landmark wellness study
The largest study of Network Spinal remains one of the most comprehensive wellness assessments undertaken in the complementary healthcare field. Conducted by researchers at the University of California Irvine School of Medicine and published in the Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research, it involved 2,818 patients receiving Network care across the United States and internationally.
Participants completed detailed self-assessments covering physical wellbeing, emotional wellbeing, stress levels, and life enjoyment, both before and over the course of their care. The results were consistent and substantial: 76% of participants reported significant improvements across all four domains. The improvements were not limited to the reason people initially came in, and they continued building over time rather than plateauing.
Perhaps most notably, patients also reported making healthier choices in other areas of their lives, including improved nutrition, more exercise, better sleep habits. These were at higher rates than people engaged in those wellness practices alone. The researchers concluded that Network care appeared to amplify the benefits of other healthy lifestyle choices, not simply exist alongside them.

A Retrospective Assessment of Network Care Using a Survey of Self-Rated Health, Wellness and Quality of Life
2,818 patients across the US and internationally. Measured physical wellbeing, emotional wellbeing, stress levels and life enjoyment before and during Network care. 76% reported significant improvements across all four domains. Benefits continued building over time and extended beyond the initial presenting concern.

Research doesn’t capture everything that changes. But it does establish that this approach produces consistent, meaningful, and measurable improvements in people’s lives — across a wide range of ages, conditions and starting points.
Nervous system function:
heart rate variability
Heart rate variability, which is the variation in time between heartbeats, is one of the most reliable objective measures of autonomic nervous system function. High HRV indicates a nervous system that can adapt well to changing demands. Low HRV is associated with chronic stress, poor recovery, and reduced resilience. It’s used as a measure in elite athletic training, stress research, and clinical cardiology.
A retrospective analysis of 46 patients receiving Network Spinal care found significant improvements in heart rate variability across a 90-day period of care. This is meaningful because it provides an objective, measurable indicator, not just a self-reported feeling, that the nervous system is functioning differently after care.

The Network Spinal Wave:
what the science found
One of the most scientifically distinctive aspects of Network Spinal is what researchers call the Network Spinal Wave, a rhythmic, wave-like movement that travels through the spine during sessions. Most patients experience it as a subtle, spontaneous undulation that arrives without being directed. It’s one of the things people often describe as unlike anything they’ve encountered before.
Since 1997, this phenomenon has been studied using surface electromyography and characterised mathematically. Research conducted at the University of Southern California Department of Electrical Engineering found that the wave demonstrates the mathematical properties of a central pattern generator, a neural circuit that produces rhythmic, patterned output. The researchers concluded it may be the first central pattern generator discovered in the spine that is unrelated to locomotion. This matters because it provides a neurological explanation for why precise, light contacts along the spine produce effects that extend far beyond the point of contact.

The Network Spinal Wave as a Central Pattern Generator
Using surface electromyography and mathematical modelling, researchers at the University of Southern California characterised the Network Spinal Wave as a unique, repeatable neurological phenomenon with the properties of a central pattern generator, a type of neural circuit that produces self-sustaining rhythmic output. what individual patients experienced
Beyond the large-scale studies, there is a growing body of peer-reviewed case studies documenting the experiences of specific patients across a range of presenting conditions. These are individual reports rather than controlled trials, and they should be read as such, they describe what happened for particular people, not what is guaranteed for anyone. With that in mind, the breadth of conditions represented is notable.

Wellness lifestyles and Network care
A series of studies published in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine examined the relationship between Network Spinal care and broader wellness lifestyle choices. The research found that people receiving Network care showed a significantly greater ability to maintain positive lifestyle changes, in areas including nutrition, exercise, and meditation, compared to people engaged in those practices without concurrent Network care.
