GENTLE CHIROPRACTIC

Gentle Chiropractic

Most people who search for a chiropractor are expecting a crack. That’s not what happens at Lifewise. The care here is Network Spinal: light, precise contacts along your spine, with no cracking, no twisting and no force.

If you’ve put off seeing a chiropractor because you didn’t want your neck or back cracked, this is written for you.

What most people picture

Ask people what happens at a chiropractor and most describe the same thing. A twist of the neck, a loud crack, and bracing for it. Plenty of people like that feeling. Plenty of others don’t, and some put off getting help for years because of it.

Some people come to Lifewise after a bad experience elsewhere. Others have never seen a chiropractor at all and aren’t sure what to expect. Both are welcome, and both are common here.

What gentle chiropractic means here

Network Spinal is the approach I’ve used for over 20 years. You lie fully clothed on a padded table. I make a series of light, precise contacts along your spine, mostly at the neck and the base of the spine, with pauses in between so your body has time to respond.

The contacts work with your nervous system to help it recognise where it’s holding tension and let it go. Your body realigns on its own, from within. Nothing is forced into place.

Most people are surprised by how gentle it is. And by what shifts.

→ How Network Spinal works

Why light contacts are enough

Your nervous system responds to precise input. When it recognises where it’s been bracing, the muscles around the spine can ease, and movement and posture follow. Change builds over a series of visits, and many people find it lasts because their body has let go of the pattern it was holding.

It’s calm and unhurried. Many people feel themselves sinking into the table and breathing more deeply during a session.

Who it suits

Gentle care suits almost anyone, and it’s especially suited to people who:

  • have been put off chiropractic by cracking or manipulation
  • have had a bad experience with a chiropractor before
  • have never seen a chiropractor and want an easy place to start
  • have neck pain or headaches and don’t want their neck manipulated
  • have sciatica or an irritated nerve, where twisting can make things worse
  • are older, pregnant, or simply prefer a lighter touch

What people often tell me

The words people use most are subtle and gentle. Some say they feel like they could float off the table. And many of them are still coming to Lifewise years later, bringing their family and friends along.

Your first visit

The first visit starts with a conversation. We talk about your history, what’s been going on and what you’re hoping for. Then a gentle assessment of your spine and nervous system, and I’ll explain what I find before anything else happens.

If you’ve had a bad experience before, tell me when you arrive. I take that seriously, and we go at your pace. You’re welcome to bring someone with you. Allow 60 to 75 minutes.

Twenty years of gentle care in Adelaide

I’ve practised Network Spinal in the Adelaide CBD since 2006. I trained under Donny Epstein, founder and developer of Network Spinal. And I initially worked with Ken Hull, the first Network practitioner in South Australia, before opening Lifewise. I’m Network Spinal certified, a member of the Australian Chiropractors Association and AHPRA registered.

For many people, yes. Your nervous system responds to precise input, so it doesn’t take force to make a change. Many people notice something in their first few visits, like a fuller breath or looser shoulders, and the bigger shifts build over time. The research page has more on the evidence.

Traditional chiropractic often uses quick, forceful adjustments to move a joint, and many people find that helpful. Network Spinal uses light contacts at specific points along the spine, and works with your nervous system so your body releases tension and realigns on its own.
